Artist and metalsmith, Nathan Dube, has created a body of work that transforms low tech toys to be high tech and extravagant. I love the piece pictured here, the S.P.I.T., a laser sighted spit wad shooter. These pieces are beautifully crafted and well thought out. Dube states that he “explores the connections between (childhood) memory and the body’s senses” and his later work explores this childhood “relationship to masculinity, and the mid-life crisis.” He also states that “these eclectic toys are meant to comment on the absurd lengths men will sometimes go to in order to recapture their youth.”

Well, i don’t think I am anywhere near a mid-life crisis and I sure want one. So what does that say about me?
